Bertrand Falls at Home Versus Overton

Saturday evening high school football? Why not? Bertrand hosted Overton for a D2-8 District battle and it was the Eagles winning 49-12. Overton is regarded as one of the top teams in D2 and they were impressive. The Vikings though, never gave up and had great effort.

Overton started scoring in the opening quarter on a one-yard rush from Gage Clifton with 6:54 to go in the first. The extra point was good. Bertrand could move the ball at times against the Eagles, but early on the Overton defense would bend but not break.

Later in the first, Anthony Arredondo scored from five yards away. The extra point was no good; it was 13-0 with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter. The Vikings were again moving the ball downfield, but a fumble killed the drive. The Eagles fumbled themselves, and Bertrand tried once again to move the ball. They were unable to and had to punt.

Going to the second quarter, it was 13-0 in favor of the Eagles. Shortly after the second quarter started, Clifton scored again from 14 yards away. The kick was good and it was 20-0. At the 8:36 mark in the second, Overton scored as Hayden Muirhead ran it in from four yards out. It was 27-0 after the kick.

Bertrand continued to try and find a groove on offense and just couldn't find much yardage in the second period. Before the half, at the 3:33 mark, Clifton scored from three yards out and it was 35-0 after the two-point conversion.

That was the score heading to halftime.

Out of the half, Overton had nearly an eight-minute drive that resulted in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Muirhead to Dawsen McCarter. The extra point was good and it was 42-0.

The Vikings struck quickly on their next possession as on their first play from scrimmage Waylon Oleson found Kayden Hatfield on a 65-yard pass resulting in a touchdown. It was 42-6 late in the third.

Moving to the fourth quarter, Bertrand scored on a 44-yard touchdown run from Thunder Nelson to make it 42-12. Overton scored one more time on a long pass from Quinton Anderson to Brock McCarter. The kick was good, and it was 49-12 and that rounded out the scoring.
