Sunday evening we took in the 32nd Annual Mr. and Miss Basketball All-Star Games at the University of Nebraska Kearney. There were four RPAC athletes competing in the games. On the Girls Red Team, Alma's Riley Scott and Addison Siebels played, along with Amanda Siebels as the Head Coach. On the boy's side of things, Kamden Bose and Rian Grove of Southern Valley played on the Blue Team.
In the girls' game, the Blue Team won a fun competitive battle, 62-60. Riley Scott came out firing for the Red team with a pair of three-pointers in the first five minutes. The Red Team had a narrow lead to end the opening period 14-13. In the second quarter, the scoring remained steady and it was 27-24 in favor of the Blue Team.
In the third quarter the the teams traded the lead and going to the fourth, it remained tight, 42-41 with the Red Team ahead.
In the fourth quarter, not much ground was gained between either team until the end when the Blue Team snagged the 62-60 lead on a layup from Mikah O'Neill of SEM. The Red Team had a chance to hit a last-second shot by Hannah Herrick from Amherst. It was a near half-court heave, that was off but had a decent look at it.
For the Red Team, Addison Burr of Shelton had 16, Alma players, Riley Scott had eight and Addison Siebels had five.
For the Blue Team, Marin Reilly of Ord had 15.
The boys' game, yes was close, the Blue Team winning 91-90. This matchup wasn't as competitive, with a lot of offense and having fun.
The Red Team was strong to start, up 20-9 in the first period. The Blue Team began to climb back and they trailed 26-21 after one. In the second quarter, the Blue Team was able to keep things rolling, taking the lead in the next 10 minutes, 45-43 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the teams traded the lead back and forth and even tied at times. Going into the final stanza it was 70-69 in favor of the red.
The fourth quarter became more of a dunk contest and isolation-based game for the athletes to show their skills. Eventually, the Blue Team secured the 91-90 win. A fun night of hoops had by all.
For the Red Team, Riley Bombeck of Shelton showed out with 24 points.
For the Blue Team, 31 points for Cache Gracey of South Loup. Southern Valley's Kamden Bose had 10 and Rian Grove had five.
