What miserable weather to start the Class D Golf State Championships. It was cold, windy, and rainy. They pushed back tee times to 11:00 A.M. For Class C, they moved it back to 1:00 P.M. and then eventually canceled the first day in Columbus and will have just a one day championship event on Wednesday. With that being said, William VanBoening of Alma will tee off at 9:00 A.M.
But about 90 minutes after the first tee-off, the rain subsided. It was still a little chilly and windy but then it warmed up a little as the day went on.
Back to Class D action though, RPAC golfers fared pretty well at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte and Hitchcock County finds themselves in the heat of a team title too.
Let's dive into the results thus far. First, the team results.
Right now as it stands, Overton is in the lead with a 336 in round one. Right behind them is Hitchcock County as they shot a 339 in the first day of action. Following them is Loomis with a 341. It's pretty tight throughout though, as Sutton is in 4th with a 346 and Hemingford is in 5th with a 351. So not a lot of room for margin.
Now for the individual results.
The leader overall is Tyson Essex of Loomis, he shot par on the day.
Jack Baker of Hitchcock County is leading the Falcons, sitting T-4 with a 77. Brayden Melchert is T-20 with an 83. Ashton Parker-Johnson is T-25 with an 86 on day one. Darin Neben is T-58 with a 93. And rounding out the Falcons was Mason Schilke, he's 88th with a 105.
Cambridge is represented by Micah Gerlach. He's in Medal contention as he's tied for 15th with an 81. He teed off early in the day and played through rain in the first five holes.
Tyce Pate of Medicine Valley shot a 91 and is tied for 48th. He was in the same group as Gerlach.
Colton Sedlacek of Southwest is T-67 with a 96. He started a little shaky but ended up playing some good golf.
For Southern Valley, the Eagles have a pair of individuals playing. Kamden Bose is T-4 with a 77. Braxton Hammond is T-10 with a 79.
