Thursday evening Bertrand hosted a triangular with a pair of other RPAC schools as Arapahoe and Southern Valley were in attendance to play.
In the first match of the evening, it was Bertrand versus Arapahoe. The Vikings were able to capture the win two sets to none and the set scores were 25-23 and 25-17.
In that initial set, Arapahoe took an early commanding lead of 4-1. The Warriors hung onto that lead for the majority of the first set until the Vikings tied it up at 21-21. Then, the Vikings buckled down on defense to aid in the closing moments to capture the win.
The second set it was another back-and-forth affair in the early stages. Arapahoe tied things up at 7-7, and then Bertrand went on an 11-5 run to lead 18-12. Arapahoe took a timeout to regroup. The Warriors made an attempt at a comeback, but couldn't do so.
Bertrand was led by Emma Brown with six kills. Katelyn Evans was effective too, she had five kills on six swings. Shelby Schoene had five aces in the match.
Unofficially for Arapahoe, Sabrina Jacobsen had six kills and an ace. Clara Hilker added five kills and an ace.
In the next match, it was Southern Valley facing Arapahoe. The Eagles won two sets to none and the set scores were 25-11 and 25-15.
In the first set, Southern Valley took no time getting ahead as Arapahoe was forced to take a timeout with the score reading 7-0. Southern Valley continued to control the match until the end. A handful of errors for the Warriors hindered their ability to come back.
In the second set, Arapahoe took an early lead of 2-1, but Southern Valley and their powerful front-row attack took over. At one point, Southern Valley had a 9-8 lead. From there, they went on a 16-7 run to close the set and the match.
Unofficially, Southern Valley was led by Ann Bose and her nine kills. Brecklyn Hammond had four aces. Arapahoe was led by Sabrina Jacobsen with four kills and Clara Hilker with three kills.
The final match of the night featured Southern Valley and Bertrand. Southern Valley won the match in two sets, 25-12 and 25-16. Both sets were a bit of a struggle for both teams as attacking and serving errors affected the game.
In the first set, the teams were tied at 2-2. The Eagles then on a 6-0 run and Bertrand was forced to take a timeout. The Vikings could not recover and dropped the set.
In the second set, Bertrand started strong with back-to-back kills from Emma Brown to start the set. Southern Valley climbed back though and tied it at 5-5. From there it was back and forth for a few points. But, Southern Valley went on a scoring flurry halfway through to secure the win. Emma Brown and Beth Pelton led Bertrand with three kills.
Unofficially for Southern Valley, Ann Bose had 10 kills and Adi Hunt had five kills.
Southern Valley is now 10-3, Arapahoe is 5-8, and Bertrand is now 9-5 this year.
