Alma hit the road on Friday to play Medicine Valley for some afternoon hoops. It was their first games since the Holiday Break for the Cardinals and the Raiders. Alma was able to take a pair of wins.
In the girls matchup, Alma took control early and never looked back, winning 71-14. In the opening quarter, the pressure Alma was applying was noticeable. They used a 1-3-1 zone and traps in the corners once the ball handler approached the center line. Alma built a lead of 24-3 after the first eight minutes.
In the second period, the Cardinals kept their foot on the throttle and went up 49-5 at the intermission. In the third, Medicine Valley got some things going with six points, but Alma scored another 14 to increase the lead to 63-11.
In the final quarter, Alma scored eight points, and for Medicine Valley, they had three.
Medicine Valley was led by Haylie Gustafson with six, Remmington Stout had three, Oakley Stout with two, and Jordiya Phillips had two. The Raiders are now 1-7 and will go to Wallace on Tuesday.
For Alma, Vayden Epp scored 16 points, Tierston Moore scored 15, Kamryn Scott scored 13, Harper Fennel added eight, and Chayse Molzahn, Miley Whitney, and Kamri Neal scored six. Alma moves to 8-1 and will face Superior on Saturday.

The boys game was up-tempo and fast-paced, and yes, both teams had some kinks to work out, but it was a good matchup. Alma ended up winning 53-40.
Medicine Valley controlled things in the first quarter as they led 13-9. The Raiders were hitting some big-time shots to get a lead. In the second period, Alma began to creep back in and then eventually took the lead, going up 26-22 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Alma opened things up and scored 18 points to Medicine Valley's eight. It was 44-30 heading to the fourth.
In the final quarter, the squads traded buckets, and Alma did enough to secure the win.
Mason Roblee and Brody Senff had 11 points to lead Medicine Valley. Ethan Brown had nine, and Lucas Einspahr had six. The Raiders are 3-5 and will play Wallace on the road on Tuesday.
