On Friday evening, Wallace played host to Maxwell for a girls and boys basketball double-header. The squads split the games as Maxwell took the girls matchup and Wallace won the boys. It was an intense environment for both matchups, and you can tell as the regular season nears it's end that each game is important.
In the girls matchup, both teams competed hard until the very end, and Maxwell got the win by a final of 58-37. In the first quarter, the opening minutes were offensive-heavy as both squads were knocking down shots. Eventually, the shot-making tapered a little, and Maxwell led 12-6 going to the second.
In the second quarter, Maxwell opened things up a little bit as they led 27-11 at halftime. They were able to advance that lead by creating easy opportunities in transition.
In the third period, Wallace was able to match Maxwell's energy and each team scored 19 points. Wallace used a late surge towards the end of the quarter to make it 46-30 going to the final period.
In the final quarter, Wallace attempted to make one last push to get closer as their defense to start the fourth was intense. But, Maxwell was able to make enough space to take home the win and outscore Wallace 12-7 in the last quarter.
We visited with Jenna Miller of Maxwell after the game.
Maddy Flock led Maxwell with 21 points, Jenna Miller had 16 points, Kristyn Cheek had 10, and Emory Christensen ended up with eight.
For Wallace, Kaley Sauser, Devin, Giesselmann, and Ashley Robertson had eight points, and Ryleigh Hanson added seven.
Maxwell moves to 11-10 and will play against Sutherland on Tuesday at home. For Wallace, they are 5-14 and will face Southwest on the road on Tuesday.

In the boys game, it was a physical battle that Wallace ended up winning, 58-38. The score did not dictate the intensity of this game, as both teams fought hard until the end.
Wallace came out very strong and looked very focused on getting out ahead. That's exactly what they did, as they led 20-6 after the first quarter. Then they carried over the strong defensive effort into the second period, and it was 31-7 going to halftime.
In the third quarter, Maxwell came out strong scoring 18 points, and Wallace scored 17 points. It was 48-25 going to the final stanza.
In the final quarter, Maxwell was able to take some momentum from the third and carry it to the fourth as they outscored Wallace 13-10.
We visited with Jason Fisher of Wallace about the win.
For Maxwell, Jesse Reyes had 15 points, Cole Huffman had eight, and Kole Jones scored seven.
Wallace was led by Max Hanson and Conner Kennicutt, as they had 18 and 17 points. Jason Fisher scored 10.
Maxwell is 5-15 and will play Sutherland at home on Tuesday. Wallace is 13-7 and will play at Southwest on Tuesday.
