Our Underrated Gyms in the RPAC

Now, if you're school didn't make this list, do not take offense. I really enjoy all of the gyms in the conference. Every single one has something special about it. Part of the decisions made on this list are based on some crazy games we have attended, the atmosphere, and other factors. This list features a handful of places we feel fly under the radar. Again this is a list of gyms that we feel are underrated.

Alma

There are some folks that don't love Alma's gym. I absolutely adore it. It's old school. The baselines are a touch tight but, the atmosphere is always great in Alma. All of the fans are on one side, and it's as if they are on top of you. The bleachers reach high up into the rafters.

If you aren't used to playing in a venue like this, it would be intimidating. You can feel the ball bounce when it hits the floor. Also, their pep band is always very solid. And how could you not mention the PA Announcer, Ricky Walker? Ricky keeps fans informed and has always been gracious with his shoutout to us at the RPAC Rundown. Alma is one of the most underrated places to go and if it's a big game, it gets loud.

Hayes Center

I have not yet attended a varsity basketball game in Maywood, but I bet it is similar in Maywood as it is in Hayes Center. Hayes Center has a nice facility, but this one made the list mainly because of the outpouring of fans at games during the regular season. When we came to one of our Featured Matchups as the Wolves hosted Paxton, When we walked in at halftime of the JV game, it was full. It was almost jarring but incredibly cool.

Gyms being full is always a great sight to see and the MHC folks always show out.

Hitchcock County

RPAC West Boys Semis were electric this past year. Hitchcock County was the host for the semifinals. It was a rematch from the year before, Maywood-Hayes Center and Dundy County Stratton. You couldn't find a seat in there for that game, and the Falcons have a decent-sized gym. Every shout, stomp, dribble, etc. could be felt in there. It has a great feel in that facility. A nice blend of old school and some updates, it is a cool place to catch a game.

Maxwell

Maxwell's gym has everything you need for a big game. Nice capacity, an excellent floor, and just a neat gym. They hosted one night of RPAC hoops, the crowds weren't massive, but I was able to analyze the facility and really liked it. I have not seen a game in their auxiliary gym but we checked it out this summer and it was pretty cool too. Maxwell has done a nice job with the facilities within their school.
