Paxton made the short trip to Sutherland on Thursday night for a matchup with the Sailors on the basketball court. It was Senior night for the Sailors so there was a nice crowd on hand. Paxton though, was able to secure wins in both games.
In the girls game, Paxton was able to use their pressure defense to get run outs and win in convincing fashion, 44-12.
In the first few minutes of the game, scoring was hard to come by for both teams. Paxton, though, got some things to work, and they led 11-2 after one quarter. Paxton kept their foot on the pedal in the second and continued to play tight defense, and they led 24-2 heading into the break.
In the third quarter, it was the same theme essentially, and after the period, it was 40-8. The final period gave both teams the chance to get a number of players in the game, each squad scored four in the quarter.
We chatted with Ella Fote after the game about the win.
Jordan Clouse led Paxton with 11, Ella Fote had 10, and Emmalee Nicholson had nine.
Mahla Vasquez led Sutherland with eight points and Maleah Vasquez had three.
Paxton is now 13-8 is the #2 seed in the D2-10 sub and will face #3 seed Sandhills-Thedford on Tuesday at 6:00 P.M. MT. The game is in Mullen.
Sutherland is 3-16 and will play in the D1-11 subdistrict as the #3 seed on Tuesday against #2 seed South Platte. The game is in Brady with tip-off at 5:30 P.M. CT.

In the boys game, Paxton won big, 70-28. The first half was a little sluggish for both teams. After the opening quarter, Paxton led 18-2.
Sutherland was able to find some success in the second quarter on offense but still trailed heading to the intermission, 30-11. In the third quarter, the Tigers had an offensive explosion, putting up 25 points while holding Sutherland to 10. It was 55-21 going to the fourth quarter.
Paxton continued to maintain the lead and control the game in the fourth as they outscored Paxton 15-7.
Following the game, we chatted with Jasper Brewster of Paxton about the Tigers' victory.
Jasper Brewster led the scoring for Paxton with 20 points, Maddex McConnell and Tanner Hebblethwaite each had 12 points.
For Sutherland, Zayn Green had eight points, Isaac Sinsel had eight too, and Jackson Saner scored seven.
Paxton moves to 14-6 and will play Hershey Friday night at home.
Sutherland is now 2-16 and will play Creek Valley on the road on Tuesday.
