
All but five teams have finished the basketball season, and five will play in a district final on Friday. Check out how the teams did in their subdistrict play and who will be playing for a chance to head to Lincoln! Congratulations to all the teams on a great season.
Alma
The #2 seeded Cardinals faced #3 Kenesaw in the D1-9 subdistrict hosted by Elm Creek last Tuesday. Alma jumped out early and never looked back, earning the 42-24 win. Kamryn Scott had 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals; Chayse Molzahn had eight points and seven rebounds; Tierston Moore had six points, six rebounds, and seven steals; and Kamri Neal had six points. Vayden Epp also added eight rebounds.
On Thursday, in the subdistrict final, the Cardinals faced the #1 seed and host Elm Creek. Alma came out of the gate slow as they trailed the Buffaloes 15-6 after the first quarter. After that, the Cardinals equaled their scoring, but the slow start was too much to overcome. Elm Creek defeated Alma 53-42. Moore led Alma with 13 points, 17 rebounds, and three steals, and Scott added 10 points and four rebounds.
Alma clinched a district final via a wildcard. The Cardinals are the #5 seed and will host the D1-5 District Finals, hosting #12 Brady on Friday at 6:00 P.M. CT. Alma is 19-6 heading into that game.
Arapahoe
#2 Arapahoe faced #3 Cambridge on Wednesday last week. The Warriors avenged a loss from just a week before, defeating the Trojans 58-38. Sawyer Shafer led Arapahoe with 16 points and three steals, and Suttyn Shafer added 14 points and four assists.
Against #1 Southwest, the Warriors fell 60-41. Suttyn Shafer led the team with 10 points, four assists, and three steals; Sawyer Shafer added six points and five rebounds; and Clara Hilker had six points.
Arapahoe finished their season with a record of 16-10.
Bertrand
The Vikings were the #4 seed in the D2-6 subdistrict hosted by Wilcox-Hildreth and faced #5 Loomis. Bertrand lost to the Wolves 46-41. Brooklyn Evans led the Vikings with 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals; Shelby Schone had 10 points and five rebounds; and Addie Andersen added seven points and four rebounds.
Bertrand ends their season with a 9-15 record.
Cambridge
#3 Cambridge faced #2 Arapahoe on Wednesday in the D1-10 subdistrict. The Trojans lost to the Warriors 53-38. This was the third time the teams had played and Arapahoe won two times this season.
Cambridge finished their season with a 12-10 record.
Dundy County Stratton
The Tigers earned the #1 seed and hosting rights for the D2-9 subdistrict. They faced #4 Medicine Valley on Thursday and got the 60-10 win over the Raiders. Clara Spargo had 22 points and 13 rebounds; Abi Spargo added 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals; and Emily Schack added eight points. Kimberly Escobar added six steals.
On Friday, Dundy County Stratton faced #2 Hitchcock County. The Tigers started hot and never backed off as they cruised to a 56-31 win. C. Spargo had 16 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and four steals; A. Spargo had 12 points, eight rebounds, and five steals; and Escobar added 12 points.
The Tigers advanced to a district final and is the #13 seed. They will face #4 Dorchester on Friday in Holdrege at 7:00 P.M. CT. Dundy County Stratton has a 16-6 record as they head into this game.
Hi-Line
The Bulls were the #5 seed in the D1-10 subdistrict and battled #4 Wauneta-Palisade. Hi-Line came up short as they lost to the Broncos 51-40. Ellaray Koch led the Bulls with 14 points, and Bentley Stubbs added eight points, 20 rebounds, and five steals.
Hi-Line ended their season with a record of 4-17.
Hitchcock County
The Falcons were the #2 seed in the D2-9 subdistrict and took on #3 Wallace on Thursday. Hitchcock County defeated the Wildcats 48-33. Madysen Carlson had 15 points and 12 rebounds; Raegan Hagen had 13 points and four rebounds; and Riley Hagan added nine points.
That win sent the Falcons to the subdistrict final against #1 Dundy County Stratton. Hitchcock County lost to the Tigers 56-31. Carlson had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Kaiah Johnson Johnson had added 10 points and six rebounds.
Hitchcock County ends their season with a record of 10-13.
Maxwell
Maxwell was the #4 seed in the C2-7 subdistrict, facing #5 Wood River. This game was supposed to be played in Cross County, but due to the winter weather that moved into the area, that game was moved to Elm Creek. The Wildcats lost to the Eagles, 52-43. Kristyn Cheek had 20 points, six rebounds, and three steals, and Jenna Miller added 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
The Wildcats finished the year with a record of 12-11.
Maywood-Hayes Center
Maywood-Hayes Center earned the #1 seed in the C2-8 subdistrict and hosting rights. Well, the weather threw a kink into things and forced higher seeds to host so the games could be played. The Wolves hosted #4 Centura on Wednesday and lost to the Centurions 53-46. It was an evenly matched game until the fourth quarter when Centura created some separation to steal the 53-46 win. Caylie Softley had 14 points and four steals, and Karissa Stengel had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
MHC earned a district final spot via wildcard. The Wolves are the #12 seed and will travel to #5 Homer on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. CT.
Medicine Valley
The Raiders were the #4 seed in the D2-9 subdistrict and faced #1 Dundy County Stratton on Thursday. Medicine Valley lost to the Tigers 60-10. Remmi Stout had five points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.
The Raiders ended their season with a 2-20 record.
Paxton
Paxton was the #2 seed in the D2-10 subdistrict, and they faced #3 Sandhills/Thedford on Wednesday. The Tigers defeated the Knights 45-39. Jaleigh Hansen had 10 points and three steals; Jordan Clouse added nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals; Ella Fote had seven points, and Jakcee Mitchell had seven points and 12 rebounds.
Against #1 Mullen on Thursday, Paxton lost 47-38. Hansen had 15 points and three rebounds; Clouse had nine points and four steals; Fote had seven points and eight rebounds; Mitchell added eight rebounds; and Emmalee Nicholson had 10 rebounds.
The Tigers ended their season with a 14-9 record.
Southern Valley
The Eagles were the #2 seed in the C2-9 subdistrict at Thayer Central. They faced #3 Centennial on Thursday and earned the 47-30 win. Adi Hunt had 18 points, three rebounds, three assists, and five steals; Vanesa Aguayo had eight points and three steals; and Tori Bose had eight points.
Against #1 Thayer Central on Friday, Southern Valley defeated the Titans 44-40. Hunt scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had two steals and Bose had 20 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Hunt achieved her 1,000th career point in this game as well. Congrats, Adi!
That win earned the Eagles a district final game where they are the #9 seed and will face #8 Yutan on Friday in Yutan at 6:00 P.M. CT. Southern Valley is 20-5 going into that game.
Southwest
On Wednesday, Southwest was the #1 seed in the D1-10 subdistrict and faced #4 Wauneta-Palisade. The Roughriders won the game 62-31 to advance.
On Thursday against #2 Arapahoe, the Roughriders won 60-41.
Southwest advanced to the D1-3 district final, where they will host #12 Brady on Friday at 6:00 P.M. CT. The Roughriders are 22-1 heading into that game.
Sutherland
Sutherland was the #3 seed in the D1-11 subdistrict and faced #2 South Platte on Wednesday. The Sailors fought hard but came up short against the Blue Knights, 38-27, and ended their season with a 3-17 record.
Wallace
#3 seeded Wallace in the D2-9 subdistrict faced #2 Hitchcock County on Thursday. The Wildcats lost to the Falcons 48-33 to end their season with a record of 5-16.
Wauneta-Palisade
Wauneta-Palisade was the #4 seed in the D1-10 subdistrict and faced #5 Hi-Line on Monday. The Broncos defeated the Bulls 51-40 to advance.
On Wednesday, Wauneta-Palisade faced #1 Southwest, fell 62-31, and ended their season.
The Broncos ended their season with a 10-12 record.
