State softball is this week. How fast did that season go?! Unfortunately for the Southern Valley/Alma Saints, they will not partake in the competition in Hastings for the State Tournament as they fell last week in postseason play.
The Saints were slated as the #3 team in the C-9 District Tournament which was hosted by Gothenburg. Teams in this subdistrict included #1 Gothenburg, #2 Cozad, and #4 Ord. Southern Valley/Alma was set to face the #2 team in the bracket, Cozad.
The Saints though, fell in the game, 11-0. Southern Valley/Alma was hanging with Cozad for an inning and a half. But, in the home half of the second, Cozad exploded for eight runs in the inning. It looked like the Saints had the inning under control after a walk and a single, then a fielder's choice. So one out with two runners on. But then, Cozad had a walk, an error on the Saints, and then a string of hits that resulted in eight runs.
In the bottom of the third inning, Cozad scored three more runs. The Saints were unable to get any runs in the top of the fourth, and that ended the game and their season.
For Southern Valley/Alma, they had two hits. Natalee Holste and Sarah Holste each went 1-2.
The Saints finish the season at 9-18.
