The 2022 high school volleyball season has come to a close. The RPAC was represented by Cambridge, Maywood-Hayes Center, and Southwest at the NSAA State Volleyball Tournament last week. The results from the tournament can be found below.
Cambridge
Cambridge earned the #2 seed for the Class D1 state tournament and was assigned #7 Cedar Catholic. It was a five-set thriller that didn't end in Cambridge's favor. The Trojans took the first two sets from Cedar Catholic with set scores of 25-19 and 32-30 but then it was all Cedar Catholic as they took the next three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 15-10. Cedar Catholic was later crowned the 2022 Class D1 State Volleyball Champions.
Cambridge was led by Erin Johnson with 16 kills and six blocks while Jacey and Jalen Kent each contributed 11 kills. Breelle Miller had 40 assists on the match. Cambridge's season concluded with a record of 29-3.
Maywood-Hayes Center
Maywood-Hayes Center earned the #3 seed for the Class D1 state tournament and battled with #6 Meridian. After a slow start and dropping set one, 25-18, it was all Maywood-Hayes Center as they took the next three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-21. Mataya Roberts posted 17 kills, Olivia Hansen tallied 15 kills, and Alexis Wood contributed 12 kills in the match.
The Wolves advanced to take on #7 Cedar Catholic. In this match it was all the Trojans as they swept Maywood-Hayes Center, 3-0 with set scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-15. Hansen led the Wolves with seven kills in the match.
In the consolation match, Maywood-Hayes Center was assigned #5 BDS. It took five sets to determine the winner and the Wolves came up just short. It went back and forth as the Wolves took set one with a set score of 25-21, the Eagles took set two with a score of 25-19, MHC bounced back to take set three with a score of 25-20 while BDS took the fourth set with a score of 27-25. In the final set it was BDS who was the first to 15 with a set score of 15-11 and win the match 3-2. Hansen posted 20 kills in the match while Kiley Hejtmanek posted six aces and 24 assists in the match. Maywood-Hayes Center's season concluded with a record of 26-4.
Southwest
Southwest was the #5 seed in the Class C2 NSAA State Volleyball Tournament and took on #4 Oakland-Craig. The Roughriders jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Knights with set scores of 25-13 and 26-24. After that, it was all Oakland-Craig as they took the next three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-10, and 15-11 to win the match 3-2. Caylin Barnett posted 14 kills while Bailey Truksa posted 13 kills. Southwest concluded their season with a record of 27-7.
