Following a 60-39 win on Monday for Southern Valley versus Wilcox-Hildreth in the D1-9 subdistrict, the #4 seeded Eagles then took on Bertrand, the #1 seed. Southern Valley was able to get the win in a thriller, 52-49.
In the first quarter, Bertrand struggled to get much going and the Eagles were shooting well as they led 15-9. In the second quarter, Southern Valley ballooned their lead to 29-16 at the half.
In the third quarter, Bertrand buckled down on defense and found some offense as they outscored the Eagles 12-8. Entering the final quarter, Bertrand was still behind though 37-28.
In the fourth quarter, the pressure ramped up. Bertrand went on a couple of runs and tied things up with Southern Valley 44-44 with 1:31 remaining. It was a steal and dunk from Chonsey Bieker that tied things up. Every time the Vikings got close, Southern Valley would take the lead back and ultimately hit some free throws down the stretch to get the win.
Bertrand was led by Thunder Nelson with 18 points and Chonsey Bieker had nine. Bertrand ends the season at 12-10.
Southern Valley was lead by Matt Henderson with 16 points, Rian Grove with 14points, and Kamden Bose with 11 points.
For Southern Valley, they will play Loomis in Bertrand at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday.
