Southwest Roughriders Win Both Games at Home Before Holiday Break



Southwest hosted Arapahoe on Friday night for an RPAC East battle ahead of the Holiday Break for both of these teams. For Southwest, their girls and boys teams got wins against the Warriors.


In the girls game, Southwest won by a final tally of 68-44. In the opening quarter, Arapahoe found some offense scoring 10 points. But Southwest was able to score 21 points themselves. In the second quarter, Southwest stretched their lead more, scoring 17 points and holding Arapahoe to 12. So, as you can see, both teams had their offenses playing well. It was 38-22 at the half.


Arapahoe didn't have an answer for Southwest's Aspen Billeter, as she scored 21 points in the first half.





Southwest scored 15 points in the third quarter, and for the Warriors, it was another 10. It was 53-34 going to the final period.


In the fourth quarter, the teams again scored in double figures, with a 15-10 advantage in the final period.

When it comes to stats, both teams displayed a nice balanced attack.


For Arapahoe, they are now 5-3 and will prepare for the Bob Braithwait Holiday Tournament they host on December 27th and 28th. In the box score, Suttyn Shafer led the Warriors with 14 points. Cadence Carpenter added seven, Emma Strand had six, Clara Hilker and Ruby McCune each had five, and Sawyer Shafer had four.


For Southwest, Aspen Billeter had 29 points, tying the school record set by Caylin Barnett who set it in the 2022-2023 season. Atleigh Nelms had 12 points, Allison VanPenlt scored eight, and Kyra Nelms chipped in seven.


Southwest is off until January 3rd, when they host Franklin.



In the boys game, Southwest picked up their second win of the season against the same opponent, beating Arapahoe 58-33.


The Warriors have been depleted with some injuries, but they continue to play hard this season.


The Roughriders didn't take much time building a lead, as they went up 18-8 after the opening eight minutes.


Southwest used ball pressure to their advantage from start to finish, forcing 28 turnovers. Even with the turnovers, the Warriors, when they got into their half-court offense, found success.





In the second quarter, it was similar to the first as Southwest scored 14 points while holding the Warriors to six; it was 32-14 at halftime. In the third quarter, Southwest pressed forward on offense, and Arapahoe found success on offense themselves as we went to the final stanza at 47-28.


In the final quarter, Southwest scored in double-figures again with 11 points, and Arapahoe had five.

For Arapahoe, Alex Diaz and Eli Shafer led the Warriors with 11 points. Shafer also grabbed five rebounds. Konnor Shifflet had eight points, and Chris Hermes had three. Arapahoe is now 0-8 and will get ready for the Bob Braithwait Holiday Tournament.




For Southwest, Houston Billeter scored 25 points, Jacob Barber scored 13, and Trenton Williams and Deric Kelley had eight. The Roughriders are 2-5 and will play Franklin on January 3rd at home.
