It was the opening day of the NSAA State Wrestling Tournament held in Omaha at the CHI Health Center. It was a packed facility with the atmosphere buzzing. RPAC Wrestlers battled hard on day one.
Girls are not separated by class. RPAC boy's wrestlers were all in Class D. The wrestlers are separated by weight within the blog.
Starting with the girls, in the 120-pound weight class, Southern Valley's Hayley Serfontein lost in her opening match to Emerson Penne of Elkhorn by a 3-2 decision and will wrestle again Friday in the first-round consolation matches.
Southwest's Madelyn Tryon of Southwest defeats Praizh Suggs of Omaha Westview by fall in 1:24 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Tryon won by fall over Gina Alba Schuyler 1:50 and advances to Friday's semifinal match.
Now for the boys' results after day one.
At 113 pounds, Alma's Tucker Brandyberry of Alma fell to Luke Gardner of Garden County in 2:42 and will wrestle again Friday in the first-round consolation matches.
At 120 pounds, Wayne Lee of Arapahoe was defeated by Cable Larson of Garden County by a 5-2 decision and Konner McCrumb of Wauneta-Palisade fell to Trey Atkins of SEM in 0:26 and will wrestle again Fridayin the first-round consolation matches.
Braxton Hammond of Southern Valley defeated Gavin Patterson of Wilcox-Hildreth by a 12-6 decision to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Hammond won by major decision over Hudson Urkoski of High Plains Community, 9-1, and advances to the semifinal match Friday.
At 126 pounds, Mitchel Stritt of Southwest lost to Uriel Guzman of Palmer by major decision, 12-3 and will wrestle again Friday in the first-round consolation matches.
At 132 pounds, Briggs Hill of Arapahoe lost to Josue Munoz of Homer by SV-1, 13-9, and will wrestle again Friday in the first-round consolation matches.
Tanner McLain of Hitchcock County defeated Kolton Thoene of Burwell by fall in 1:10 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, McLain fell to Dawson Mason of South Loup in 3:03.
Dierks Sayer of Cambridge pins Breckyn Collins of NPSP in 1:12 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Sayer lost to Jaxon Smith of Elm Creek by major decision, 11-3, and will wrestle Friday in the second-round consolations.
At 144 pounds, Titus Goshert of Arapahoe was defeated by Dylan Brichacek of Howell-Dodge by a 6-1 decision and will wrestle again Friday in the first-round consolation matches.
At 150 pounds, Grayson Koller of Arapahoe was defeated by John Leija of Plainview by an 11-5 decision, Colton Fote of Paxton fell to Gatlin Reimers of Palmer in 3:02, and Rafe Hill of Arapahoe fell to Lane Belina of Howells-Dodge in 4:54. All three will wrestle in the first-round consolation matches Friday.
At 157 pounds, Samuel Hare of Hitchcock County fell to Kelby Coufal of Aquinas Catholic in 1:09 and Owen Heessel of Maxwell was defeated by Cyrus Songster of Centennial by MD, 10-0. They will both wrestle in the first-round consolation matches on Friday.
Hunter Perks of Cambridge defeated Jorgan Condon of Creighton by fall in 4:34 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Perks came up short against Kelby Coufal of Aquinas Catholic as he lost by major decision, 12-2 and will wrestle Friday in the second-round consolations.
At 165 pounds, Alek Molzahn of Alma was defeated by Josh Mace of Archbishop Bergan by a 10-4 decision and will wrestle Friday in the first-round consolation matches.
At 175 pounds, Tye Stanton of Cambridge was defeated by Kolby Houchin of Bayard by a 5-0 decision and Karson Shuler of Hitchcock County was defeated by Logan Nelson of Wisner-Pilger by a 7-5 decision. Both of these wrestlers will compete in the first-round consolation matches on Friday.
At 190 pounds, Gabe Grove of Southern Valley is defeated by Conner Bryner of Sutherland by a 12-7 decision and Trevor Manka of Maxwell falls to Dawson Doggett of South Loup in 1:07. They will both wrestle in the first-round consolation matches Friday.
Jeremy Felix of Alma defeated Dylan Klement of East Butler by fall in 1:52 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Felix lost to Wyatt Reichenberg of Banner County by a 5-4 decision and will wrestle Friday in the second-round consolations.
At 215 pounds, Jaycob Young of Maxwell falls to Tayte Thornton of Anselmo-Merna in 3:53. He will wrestle in the first-round consolation matches Friday.
At 285 pounds, fellow RPAC athletes met in the opening match of the tournament. Trey Broeker of Southern Valley battled Taylor Hubl of Hithcock County and it was Hubl who defeated Broeker by a 4-1 decision. Broeker will wrestle Friday in the first-round consolation matches while Hubl advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Hubl fell to Kyan Sones of Meridian in 0:29 and will wrestle Friday in the second-round consolations.
