Wauneta-Palisade Girls and Medicine Valley Boys Take Home Wins on Thursday



Medicine Valley hosted Wauneta-Palisade for a pair of games on Thursday evening. The Broncos and the Raiders split the matchups as Wauneta-Palisade won the girls matchup and the boys went to Medicine Valley.


In the girls game, it was a battle until the end, but eventually, Wauneta-Palisade was able to do enough to get the win, 49-41. Both squads came out and competed extremley hard. The Broncos held a narrow lead after the first quarter, 11-7.


Wauneta-Palisade had a number of times where it looked like they might pull away, and the second quarter was one of those times. They went on a 5-0 run to begin the second quarter and they led 16-7. They carried that lead until the half, when it was 21-10 at halftime.





In the second half the scoring ramped up big time. Wauneta-Palisade continued to hang onto their double-digit lead in the third quarter. It was 37-25 going to the final period.


In the fourth quarter, things got interesting for both squads. With 2:54 to go, the Raiders cut the lead down to 44-36. Medicine Valley keep pushing forward, and Remmi Stout hit a three-pointer with 22.7 seconds to go, and it was 45-41 with the Broncos leading still.





Wauneta-Palisade did enough at the free throw line to ice the game and secure the win.

For Wauneta-Palisade, Kamryn Fanning had 14 points, Izzy Stehno had 10, and Mesa Cox and Molly Yearous each had seven


For Medicine Valley, Oakley Stout had 17, and Remmi Stout had 16 points.





Wauneta-Palisade is now 8-10 and will play Sutherland on Friday at home. Medicine Valley is 2-16 and will go to Bertrand on Friday for a game with the Vikings.

The boys game went in favor of Medicine Valley, 63-46. In the opening period of this game, both teams were running great actions to get some nice looks on offense. Also, the effort from both teams was top-notch. After the first quarter, Medicine Valley had a small lead of 12-11.


In the second quarter, Medicine Valley took over by scoring 18 points to the Broncos five. Ethan Brown for the Raiders scored 11 of those points, including three threes for the Raiders. At halftime, the Raiders led 30-16.





In the third quarter, the game remained pretty much the same, both teams playing very hard, but Medicine Valley have an edge against the Broncos. It was 41-25 heading to the fourth quarter.





In the fourth, the Broncos would not go away. They got within eight points late in the game, 50-42 with 3:29 to go in the fourth. But, Medicine Valley was able to take control and go on a 13-4 run to secure the victory.


We visited with Kaleb Einspahr of Medicine Valley about the win.


For Wauneta-Palisade, Nathan Hiett led the way with 15 points, all coming from beyond the arc; Aden Acton had 14, and Ashton Wheeler had 10.


Medicine Valley was paced by Lucas Einspahr with 23 points, 18 from Ethan Brown, and 11 from Mason Roblee. Brown hit four threes in the game.


Medicine Valley moves to 10-8 and will be at Bertrand on Friday. Wauneta-Palisade is 1-16 and will play Sutherland on Firday.
