A week I was not looking forward to at all. August 29th doesn't feel that long ago. The past 10 weeks have come and gone so quickly and we have enjoyed every minute of it. We were hoping to have some RPAC teams keep things rolling, but unfortunately, the six teams that were still playing fell in their matchups.
Before we dive into the blog, let's check out the MNB Realty Football Scoreboard.
Arapahoe
The #8-seeded Warriors have been riddled with injuries the past few weeks but that didn't stop them from competing their tails off. They were down 22-0 to #9-seeded Shelby-Rising City but came back and made things interesting. They fell, 30-22. Updated stats from this game: Kade Fisher was 4-13 passing with 126 yards, a touchdown, three interceptions, Will Cacy had 70 yards receiving and 70 yards rushing, and two touchdowns. Grayson Koller had 46 yards receiving. Koller had a punt return for a score. Briggs Hill had 17 tackles and Koller had 15 tackles and an interception. Clayton North had an interception. The Warriors end the season at 8-2.
Dundy County Stratton
The #5-seeded Tigers in the Class D1 playoffs hosted #12-seeded Lourdes Central Catholic on Friday evening. The Knights took down DCS, 34-30. For the first three quarters, DCS scored a touchdown in each period, but could not convert the two-point conversions. They did a great job though staying within striking distance. They trailed 24-18 going to the final period.
DCS scored 16 to the Knights six, but could not complete the comeback. At this time, stats have not been provided.
DCS ends the season at 8-2.
Hitchcock County
In Class D2, #12-seeded Hitchcock County went clear up to Wynot to play the #5-seeded Blue Devils. The Falcons were up 8-0 after the first quarter. But, Wynot scored 22 unanswered in the second and third quarters to make is 22-8 going to the fourth.
In the final period, Hitchcock County scored, but could not complete the comeback. No stats for Hitchcock County have been provided at this time.
The Falcons end the year at 7-3.
Southwest
In Class D6, the #13-seeded Roughriders played against #4-seeded Garden County on the road. Southwest fell in the game, 50-23. Southwest found themelves down 24-8 at halftime. In the second half they were outscored again, this time 26-15.
Houston Billeter was 13-30 with 222 yards and three scores and an interception. Braxton Hammond had two catches for 102 yards and two scores. Trenton Williams had seven catches for 105 yards.
We were notified by Coach Christian Arterburn that Willams set a new state record for receptions in a season with 69 receptions. He also had 981 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Southwest ends the 2024 campaign at 5-4.
Wallace
Wallace was the #11 seed facing #6 seed, Arthur County in Class D6. Wallace dropped the game, 31-6. Colt Franklin was 11-19 with 127 yards and a touchdown. Ashtin Johns had 75 yards on 19 carries. Masen Messersmith was the leading receiver with 94 yards on five catches and a touchdown.
Wallace closes out the season at 5-4 this year.
Wauneta-Palisade
Wauneta-Palisade made the playoffs for the first time since 2018. The Broncos were he #16 seed in D6 and faced #1 seed and defended state champion, SEM. No stats for Wauneta-Palisade have been provided at this time.
The Broncos end the season at 4-5.
